What Does a UK Size 12 Actually Convert To?

A UK size 12 equates to an EU 46, and roughly a US 14. But if you’ve tried buying shoes across different brands, you’ll know those conversions aren’t always reliable. Some brands label a 45 as a UK 12, others push you into a 47, and the inconsistencies make shopping a nightmare.

Part of the problem is that the UK sizing system (based on Barleycorns, increments of one-third of an inch) and the European Paris Point system (6.66mm steps) don’t map neatly onto one another. The larger the foot, the greater the potential for sizing errors (by the time you climb to the larger sizes, those scales are completely out of wack).
